During this week’s observations my cooperating teacher read the book “There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves.” It was so funny to see one little boy’s reaction to the book. His face the entire time was HYSTERICAL. He was so confused by the entire thing. He couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that this old lady was eating the most bizarre things. He kept saying “you don’t eat leaves” “that’s yucky” “gross”
Aside from that, I thought the story was cute because at the end the old lady ends up sneezing and she makes a scarecrow! Perfect for fall. My cooperating teacher then had the kids color in their own shortened versions of the story so that they could bring it home and show their parents. I couldn’t find a pdf of it online, but I’ll try and scan my copy of it for you and attach it after class.
I found some other cool activities to incorporate into a lesson that stems from this book. There are tons of things out there for every subject. Sequencing is a great topic to use this book for.
Here are a few activities I found online.. two are free but the one that isn’t can easily be recreated on word simply with clip art! Click on the pictures to link to the original site!
